Press Release – Simcoe Currency Club’s Inaugural Meeting
The Thornton chapter of the Essa Library is where you can find the new coin club that started last month in Simcoe County. Thornton is on Highway 27 a few minutes south of Barrie, ON.
Ten people attended the first meeting of the Simcoe Currency Club, and aspire to host a coin show in 2024.
“It’s exciting to have a club in this area because it has been underrepresented since the Huronia Coin Club folded twenty-some years ago” Cassidy Stroud commented, also noting that the location may change as membership grows and evolves, within Simcoe County. ONA member and coin dealer Paul Koolhaas provided pizza and auction items to kickstart the club. Long-time RCNA members and authors Carol and Ray Gregory were on-hand offering expert advice and suggestions for future meetings.
Bill Bischoff, proprietor of The Currency Gallery in Cookstown had been thinking of forming the club for quite some time and teamed up with Stroud to make it happen. They will be working hard at getting the administrative side of a club formed; bylaws, a constitution, a newsletter and an executive. “We want to start the new year off with all of these things in place” Stroud said.
The SCC is looking for suggestions on an official name and logo for the club as well as guest speakers. Submissions or general correspondence may be sent to
The club meets the 1st Wednesday of each month at 34 Robert Street, Thornton from 7pm-9pm. All those who join the club by December 31 will be considered Charter members.
